Concept description

The body without organs is not an anatomical body with missing parts. Deleuze and Guattari question the confinement of bodies to prescribed functions and a single organization. Anti-Oedipus places the concept in tension with desiring-machines.

A Thousand Plateaus expands the question towards how intensities and connections acquire consistency. A body’s capacities cannot be read directly from organ names or social roles; rhythms, habits, and relations matter.

The argument does not make destruction of organization inherently desirable. Experiments may produce closure or disintegration as well as new capacities. The authors’ emphasis on prudence distinguishes these outcomes.

Spinoza provides a related question about bodily capacities and changes of power. The phrase itself is not a term from the Ethics: the relation is a comparison between distinct texts.
